Community Involvement
Imaging Science Student Council
In 2021, I founded the Imaging Science Student Council to represent and advocate for Imaging Science students and foster an inclusive student community through social activities and support groups. As a student group, we plan social and educational events for Imaging Science students. We also support our incoming and current students through programs such as our Math Crash Course, mock qualifying exams, and resources for students new to the St. Louis area.
Founder and President (2021 - 2023)
Spectra
Spectra encompasses the student groups of the international society for optics and photonics (SPIE) and Optica. Our aim is to create and build a community at Washington University in St. Louis centered on the study and advancement of different imaging modalities. In addition, we seek to promote the educational advancement of the K-12 students of the greater St. Louis community into scientific fields of study. In 2023, our chapter was recognized as runner-up for the SPIE Presidental Award for Outstanding Student Chapter.

Math Crash Course
Co-Founder (2022-Present)
The student-led Math Crash Course, hosted by the Imaging Science Student Council, is an intensive 9-week summer program designed to introduce incoming Imaging Science students to many of the math concepts they’ll encounter during their first-year courses. This program was very successful in preparing students for their first-year courses as well as improving our sense of community prior to the start of the semester. This program will continue in the future with additional support from the university.
SfNIRS Summer School
Co-Organizer (2025)
The Society of Functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy (sfNIRS) Summer School was hosted by Washington University in St. Louis. As a co-organizer, I planned and executed the 3-day program, which was designed as an opportunity for fNIRS researchers of all career stages to engage with the community. This allowed participants to gain comprehensive insights, ranging from the foundations of fNIRS/DOT lectures to hands-on sessions on data processing using NeuroDOT, as well as applications in the field. We look forward to hosting similar conferences in the future!
OHBM Symposium
The 2025 Organization for Human Brain Mapping annual meeting in Brisbane, Australia, featured a symposium I helped co-organize titled “From fMRI to Optical Imaging: A Paradigm Shift in Naturalistic Cortical Mapping”. This provided an opportunity to highlight cutting-edge optical neuroimaging research for human brain mapping.
